On September 1, 2011, the National Association for Music Education dropped “MENC” from its name. The change reflected the true function in today’s world; “conference” (Music Educators National Conference) has a very different connotation than it did when the original name was adopted. The name change process was started in 1998 and completed in 2011. The website, all e-mails and the logo are now set up using NAfME as the acronym (lower case for web address and e-mail).
