Bruce taught music from 1964 to 1995 as band and orchestra director at Woodway High School, Edmonds. His band played at the U.S. presidential inaugural parades in 1973 and 1993. Bruce served on the WMEA board from 1986-1998, including the 1992-1994 biennium as president. He became the first Executive Manager of WMEA in 1995. In addition, Bruce was the UW Husky Marching Band assistant director from 1965 to 1980.
