Bruce is a graduate of the University of Oregon, and taught all of his 28 years as a music educator at Juanita High School. His groups were always recognized as outstanding, and his jazz and concert bands have performed at WMEA state and MENC (now NAfME) Northwest conferences. Bruce has served WMEA for many years in a number of capacities, including regional president, conference clinician and treasurer, ArtsTime curriculum officer, and was WMEA president 1998-2000. Three outcomes of his presidency still in place today are the commission programs for All-State groups, the practice of having a guest artist performance at the conferences and the WMEA Junior Youth Chorus. Bruce is WMEA Student Events Coordinator and also serves as in-service coordinator. Bruce was selected for the 2013-2014 Outstanding Music Educator Award for Section 8 of the National Federation of High Schools.
