From 1944 to 1973, Oliver was a teacher of band, orchestra, chorus, music education and string methods, and music department chair of Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane. He conducted the Boy Scout Jamboree band in 1967, 1969and 1973. He weas a member of Phi Mu Alpha, the Northwest Bandmasters Association and the Order of the Silver Horn.
