Brad McDavid has been Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Washington over 22 years. Previously he taught elementary, middle and high school music in Ohio and Arizona. Brad received his BA and Ph.D. degrees in Music Education from Ohio State University, and master’s degree from Arizona State University. Brad frequently serves as a clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor. In 2008 he was head director for the 1700-member Beijing Olympic Orchestra. He was also was selected to conduct a 7500-member marching band in Osaka, Japan, celebrating the music of John Philip Sousa.
Brad currently serves on the selection committees for the Sousa Foundation’s Sudler Shield and Sudler Trophy awards for outstanding high school and collegiate marching bands worldwide. He is founder and director of the Washington All-State High School Marching Band and the Washington Drum Major and Drumline Academy. Brad, his wife Janie, a music educator, and son Skylar reside in Bothell, where Janie’s parents, Bob and Betty Lou Ludwig, also proudly taught music for many years.
