
Greg, a music educator, composer and gifted professional musician, began his teaching career in Ellensburg, later moving to Park Middle School in Kennewick, where he produced outstanding bands, orchestras and jazz groups and in 1990 was honored as Teacher of the Year. Later, Greg was Everett School District’s Eisenhower Middle School band director, where he and his students were the pioneers of Whole Band Composition. His groups and individual students won many awards at large group and solo/ensemble contests and jazz festivals, and he received the school’s Golden Acorn Award in 2001. A sought-after jazz artist, Greg was noted for his passionate inprovisation on saxophone, performing with the Jazz Police, Seattle Symphony, 5th Avenue and Paramount theaters, the Jim Knapp Band and the Stan Kenton Band. In 2000, he started NorthEnd Jazz Camp, one of his favorite accomplishments. Many of his former students went on to become professional musicians and music teachers. Greg wrote a book, Help! I’m In the Band! and many compositions, examples of which are Millennium, commissioned by WMEA for the 2000 All-State Jazz Band, and Jazz Symphony #1.
