Karl has been the music teacher for the Winlock School District for 28 years. He is a graduate of Eastern Washington University and received his master’s degree from Lesley University. Currently, Karl teaches all bands, choirs, and a Music Exploratory class. He coordinates the Southwest Washington Small Schools Massed Band Festival held every spring. To hone his music skills, he is the co-conductor of the Lewis County Community Band and participates in the Northwest Wind Symphony. The Winlock music program has a long tradition of success and achievements. The Winlock HS Band has performed at the WMEA conference; Winlock bands and choirs have toured at Disneyland and Silverwood, and have consistently received high scores. The role Karl values most is the opportunity to mentor students, giving them the tools, confidence and experiences to enter the world and be successful. The biggest compliment he could ever receive is to hear from a previous student about their successes and struggles, and to know that the music experiences he has shared have been valuable in their lives. Karl enjoys life with his wife, Candace, two teenage dogs, five chickens, all on a farm tucked in the woods. He has the opportunity to spoil his grandson, Kameron, and cherishes the life of a Papa. Karl is a man whose God, family and friends strongly factor in his life. Looking forward to retirement, Karl hopes to further serve his Lord and continue in some way to serve in local music programs.
