Leslie served as WMEA president, 1941-1943, and also president of the MENC Northwest Division. He received the MENC Distinguished Service Award in 1985. From 1936 to 1963, he was the director of music for Olympia Public Schools. He was the founder of the Olympia Symphony Orchestra, South Puget Sound CC orchestra, and led The Evergreen State College orchestra.
