During his 36-year career teaching jazz in Seattle Public Schools, Robert was honored with an Excellence in Education Award in 1986, an Outstanding Music Educator Award in 1996 and an A+ Educator Award in 1998. His Washington Middle School jazz bands were perennial winners in the Reno Jazz Festival, the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival and others.
