Scott has taught concert band, percussion ensemble, jazz band, and orchestra in the Yakima School District for many years, primarily Davis High School. Co-founder of the Harvest Marching Festival and Harvest Jazz Festival, he has been active in YVMEA and WMEA, has hosted large group festivals and has served as site host or equipment manager for many state and Northwest conferences. In 2010, his district presented Scott with the Crystal Apple Award, and in 2012 he was named YVMEA Educator of the Year.
