Shirley worked as a music consultant for the Seattle Public Schools and was the district’s director of music from 1976 to 1977. In 1985 she was the Seattle director of “Imagination Celebration,” an outreach program of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
