Every biennium in the even-numbered year, WMEA honors a group of outstanding leaders in the field of music education as well as honoring those who have spent a lifetime supporting music education.
WMEA Hall of Fame
The WMEA Hall of Fame honors WMEA members who have demonstrated exceptional support, inspiration and outstanding contributions to the growth and development of music education, both public and private, in the state of Washington. The Central Washington University music building houses the WMEA Wall of Fame, with members’ names engraved on plaques.
Candidates for the Hall of Fame are nominated by WMEA members. All nominations must be submitted online by October 15 of odd-numbered years in order to be considered. New Hall of Fame inductees are honored during the WMEA State Conference in even-numbered years. Up to 10 are selected per biennium.
WMEA Music Educators of the Year
WMEA honors four teachers in even-numbered years with the Music Educator of the Year awards. The categories are
Elementary Music Educator of the Year
Middle Level Music Educator of the Year
High School Music Educator of the Year
College/University Music Educator of the Year
WMEA/WIAA Music Educator of the Year, chosen by the Awards Committee from the four above.
Candidates for these awards are nominated by the WMEA Executive Board and WMEA region presidents.
In odd-numbered years, the Awards Committee selects one teacher as the WMEA/WIAA Music Educator of the Year.
WMEA Administrator of the Year
WMEA honors one school administrator who has demonstrated that he or she fully supports music education.
Candidates are nominated by the WMEA membership. All nominations must be submitted by October 15 of odd-numbered years in order to be considered. Awards are presented at the WMEA State Conference in even-numbered years.
