Joanne served WMEA as an orchestra curriculum officer, and an All-State organizing chairman. She was co-director of the Birch Bay string teachers workshop. Awards she has received include WMEA Outstanding Educator, the Ferndale School District Golden Apple award, the Western Washington University Music Department Outstanding Alumni, and the Chamber Music of America Gruber Award.
