Organization Overview:

The Rosehill Philharmonic Orchestra (Rosehill Phil) is an intergenerational orchestra, under the umbrella of the Mukilteo Community Orchestra (MCO), that began in early 2025. Aimed at promoting a collaborative environment where every player has room to learn and enjoy music, our mission is to create and sustain an orchestra for all players to experience making music together. As an intergenerational orchestra, Rosehill Phil’s membership ranges from middle school students to adults and seniors. The Philharmonic is a place where we welcome musicians of all experiences and skill levels.

The Mukilteo Community Orchestra is a nonprofit community orchestra serving approximately 50 intermediate to advanced adult musicians from the greater Snohomish County area and beyond. Founded in 1997, MCO is now in its 28th performing season, dedicated to providing performance and educational opportunities for regional musicians to create integrative musical experiences for the community.

Job Summary:

The Conductor/Artistic Director for the Rosehill Philharmonic Orchestra is responsible for developing and implementing artistic programming, conducting rehearsals and performances, collaborating with the board of directors, musicians, and guest artists, accepting new musicians based on the needs and balance of the orchestra, and providing leadership and direction to the orchestra. As an intergenerational orchestra, it is imperative that the Conductor/Artistic Director is able to work with members across a wide range of ages and skill levels. They will need to be creative, patient, and collaborative in order to bridge any potential gaps in the group while fostering an encouraging and fun growth experience in ensemble music making. 

Key Responsibilities:

– Develop and implement artistic programming for 3 concerts in the season (January – August)

– Select (or rearrange) appropriate repertoire for rehearsals and performances based on the membership experience and skill levels

– Conduct rehearsals and performances in accordance with established schedules

– Collaborate with the board of directors, musicians, and guest artists to ensure the success of performances and events

– Accept new musicians based on the needs and balance of the orchestra

– Lead and direct the orchestra, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for all members

Desired Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:

– Formal training in conducting and music performance

– Previous experience conducting orchestras or ensembles

– Strong leadership and communication skills

– Ability to work with and facilitate an ensemble with varying ages and skill levels

– Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team

– Knowledge of orchestral repertoire and programming

Working Conditions:

– Rehearsals: 

Thursday evenings from January through May, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Harbour Pointe Middle School in Mukilteo, WA
Tuesday evenings from July through August, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Rosehill Community Center in Mukilteo, WA
– Performances: Three concerts per year (in March, May, and August) at Rosehill Community Center. 

Compensation:

– $100 per rehearsal (including dress rehearsals); $200 per concert

Position Type & Eligibility

This is a part-time independent contractor position. The selected candidate will be issued an IRS Form 1099 and is responsible for their own taxes and benefits.
