West Seattle Community Orchestras (WSCO) is now accepting applications for the position of Concert Orchestra Conductor. 

WSCO is a thriving and growing community arts non-profit organization, having recently celebrated it’s 20 year anniversary. We have three Orchestral performing groups of varying levels of ability, plus a Wind Symphony.  We are somewhat unique in that we include both adults and students in our ensembles, according to ability.  The ideal candidate for this part-time position would be able to assume the responsibility for the operation of our mid-level ensemble, the Concert Orchestra (approximately 60 members).

Duties include, but are not limited to: 

·        Selection of music to be performed for each concert in a timely fashion that allows the WSCO music librarian time to obtain the score/parts, and a review committee to approve said programs.

·        Rehearsals on Tuesday Nights from 5:30pm-6:45pm at Chief Sealth International High School in West Seattle, commencing in early October.

·        Conduct three performances per season, generally in early December, March and May.

·        Participate in placement auditions for musicians who are either new to WSCO, or are wishing to advance from another ensemble.

·        Work closely and communicate with our Executive Director, including quarterly check-in meetings.

·        Ultimate accountability is to the WSCO Board of Directors

·        Possible collaboration with outside groups and/or soloists.

 

 

The ideal candidate will possess:

·        Demonstrable experience leading a full orchestra in an appropriate concert program.

·        Familiarity in the demands and capabilities of a number of musical instrument families, including bowing issues with the strings.

·        Familiarity with the standard orchestral repertoire, with a wide variety of styles and eras.

·        An ability to build and maintain good rapport with students and adults.

·        An ability to communicate and work with the WSCO Board of Directors and Orchestra Manager.

·        Minimum Bachelor’s degree or higher in Music.

 

Pay:  Currently, pay is $150 per 1.25 hour rehearsal and concert. Any additional duties will be compensated at a similar rate.
