From 1967 to 1990, Leo was director of bands at Interlake High School in Bellevue. He served WMEA as band curriculum officer, jazz curriculum officer, treasurer and State Solo Contest chair, and was named the Music Educator of the Biennium 1992. Leo was also state president of the International Association of Jazz Educators, 1983-86.
